Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy (MBPT), developed by Medicinal Mindfulness, is a psychedelic therapy modality that combines somatic psychotherapies and mindfulness practices with a holistic approach. This modality includes clinical and spiritual practices with intentional medicine use. MBPT incorporates ceremony, ritual and spiritual exploration in an energetic/transpersonal paradigm with trained spiritual care providers and guides.
When conducted under the right setting, set and skills, psychedelic sessions are considered safe. My approach to psychedelics is one of reverence for traditional medicine use, holding the highest respect and gratitude for the communities that have tended to these sacred practices through the ages. I embrace the belief that these plants are teachers from the natural world. When we engage with them in an intentional way, their wisdom has the potential of guiding us towards personal and collective healing and transformation.
We begin the process with a discovery call, where we get to know each other and answer any initial questions. We will follow with a number of preparation sessions, where we explore your intentions around medicine work. The length of the psychedelic session could be somewhere between 3 to 5 hours, depending on the medicine. After the journey work, we will have at least 1 integration session, where the focus is to integrate what came up during the journey work.
During a psychedelic session, you will be guided to connect with intentions in a ceremonial container. You will lay down with an eye-shade and go inward while carefully selected music is played. One way of thinking about this work is that both journeyer and guide embark on a mindful exploration in consciousness together. My job is to keep you safe and help you turn towards and follow whatever arises with acceptance: I will be there, every step of the way, to provide orientation, guidance and support for the therapeutic process to naturally unfold.
Psychedelics have the power to show us what we need to see, in order to grow and heal. They meet us where we are. It often differs from what we want to see, and so challenging experiences are not uncommon. For this, preparation and integration work are crucial pillars of the therapeutic process. Some of the results that clients frequently report are:
How to change your mind, by Michael Pollan. A modern classic about the history of psychedelic research and potential applications for mental health concerns. Netflix also has a docuserie based on the book.
Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelic (BCSP). A great website that offers a wide range of answers to most questions related to psychedelic therapy.
Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) A research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and cannabis.
